Kingstonian 2-5 East Thurrock United

Kingstonians' season came to an ignominious end at a wet and windy Kingsmeadow as they conceded five goals to East Thurrock in a careless defensive performance. The only bright spot came with a brace of vintage finishes from Bobby Traynor.

Alan Dowson took the chance to continue to blood some of the younger emerging talent as Matt Warren played on the right wing and Kevin Bissaka appeared alongside MacDonald in the centre of defence. Jake Whincup continued in goal.

After an anonymous opening quarter of an hour the match burst into life in the sixteenth minute. In a well worked move Kingstonian took the lead after some good work by Clayton, who found Traynor, whose first touch was a good one before he fired a left footed shot low into corner of the goal. The lead lasted less than sixty seconds as Page hesitated thinking the ball would go out for a goal kick, only to see Collins not only reach it but cross where Higgins converted with aplomb.

Woods, Bird and Warren all squandered good chances before Kingstonian fell behind in the thirty third minute. As the defence hesitated Higgins was played clean through where he had plenty of time to comfortably beat Whincup.

Kingstonian's defensive frailties were soon on show in the second half as only three minutes in they failed to clear a corner after several attempts and opposing skipper Harrison's shot found the back of the net via a big deflection.

In the 52nd minute Dowson made a double change with Beadle and Tait coming on for Clayton and Warren. However this did nothing defensively as only a few minutes later Ruel was played clean through and comfortably got past a hesitant Whincup and rolled the ball into the vacant net.

Traynor gave the home fans some hope as he pulled a goal back in the 69th minute. A deft flick from Tain played him in, where he showed good body strength to hold off the defender, before sliding the ball past the advancing keeper.

Although Woods and Traynor both came close to narrowing the deficit, Thurrock's centre forward Higgins topped off a fine display by completing his hat trick with a left footed shot from a narrow angle.

Not too much could be read into this result given the changed line up. Both Warren and Bissaka showed promise, but it was still a careless display overall that had a distinct end of term feel about it.
