Martin was a centre forward at Corinthian-Casuals until a move in to the media in the 1970s, firstly with the ITV network before joining Sky Sports for the launch of their Premier League coverage. Martin has been involved in non-league football for a number of years, at Woking and on the coaching staff at Walton & Hersham, from where he joined with Alan Dowson in January 2007.
